High Island Finishes Strong to
Close Out BCS
The BCS Eagles took on the high powered offense of High Island on Friday night in Lake Jackson. High Island continued its string of dominant performances going up two scores early and never looking back going up 45 with 54 seconds left in the game. The Eagles gave High Island more than they expected. After coming off consecutive shutouts, High Island surrendered 42 points to the Eagles stout passing game led by Freshman quarterback Juan Solis. "I don't think they were expecting that from us" said Coach Martin.
High Island hadn't given up a single point in the last three weeks. On this night however, the Eagles got their shots in. Juan Solis threw for 4 touchdowns and Jonathon Castilla broke two long runs for touchdowns. "We are young, we knew their would be growing pains. What I continue to see from this group is a "Don't back down" mentallity. No matter what happens out there, these boys are going to fight for each other." - Martin
That mentallity will be crucial in a district that holds the number 1 and 5 teams in the state (Baytown Christian and Conroe Covenant).
"We think we can compete in this district, we know these games are going to be physical, thats why we play teams like High Island in non district" - Martin
The loss to High Island marks the Eagles first loss on the year and has them sitting at 3-1. The Eagles will be back in action Friday night when they travel to Spring Providence to take on the Paladins at 7:00 pm.
