Late Turnovers Doom Eagles
The BCS Eagles traveled to Conroe Friday night to take on #3 Conroe Covenant. Sixmanfootball.com had the Eagles as a 45 point underdog to the juggernaut running game of the cougars.
The Eagles proved very quickly that no one was getting 45'd on this night. Freshman quarterback Juan Solis has developed a near unstoppable connection with Junior wideout Kaedan Bryant and they put on a show early on, connecting for four touchdowns. Everytime Conroe's running game would find the endzone, the Eagles air attack would quickly answer. It was a 2 point game late in the third quarter when the cougars began to pull away behind the stellar play of Senior running back Jonathan Ross. "He was like a pin ball" said BCS Athletic Director Robby Crihfield "He kept an extremely low center of gravity while running so we would hit him, sometimes three or four times, and he would just bounce off and keep running"
Ross accounted for 8 of the 11 Cougar touchdowns on the night.
"Their defense got two huge interceptions in the 4th quarter" said Head Coach Danny Martin "When you are facing a running game like theirs, you can't turn the ball over, especially not late. They are built to put games away with their running game"
The loss puts the Cougars at 7-0 with a big game coming up against Baytown Christian (7-0) with the district title on the line.
The Eagles are now 5-3 with a bye week this Friday. A win next Friday vs. Orange Community Christian will put the Eagles back in the playoffs after missing the post season in 2014 and 2015.
