Eagles Beat Odds vs. Spring
The BCS Eagles went into Friday night's game vs. Spring Providence Classical an 18 point underdog and came out with a 29 point victory (63-34).
The Eagles scored on the closing drive of a tightly contested half to go into halftime 24-19. It was adjustments and discipline from then on. "They had to change their entire offense when we took their best player away", said coach Martin. When asked about being an 18 point underdog going into Friday coach martin responded with, "I like it. I hope they consider us an underdog for every game".
The offense went through a slight change this week, with more focus being placed on the passing game. Whatever adjustments were made, it worked. Freshman quarterback Juan Solis put up video game numbers going 14-23 with 310 yards and 8 passing touchdowns while adding 73 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown to his evening. Junior wideout Kaedan Bryant only caught 3 passes but all 3 went for touchdowns.
Tyler Dodge and Paul Cary led the charge defensively with 14 and 11 tackles respectively.
The win puts the Eagles at 4-1 on the year and moves them up to #11 in Division II. This sets up a showdown in Huntsville next Friday (30th) vs. #7 Alpha Omega (4-1). Kickoff will start at 7:00 pm.
