Lady Eagles Defeat Austin Waldorf

in Area Round To Push Streak To 11

The Lady Eagles hosted Austin Waldorf Friday night in the Area Round of the TAPPS 2A playoffs. The two teams were very evenly matched (#8 Brazosport Christian vs. #10 Austin Waldorf) and the Eagles knew they were going to have a fight on their hands. "We knew that we matched up well against them. They are a very solid team, especially defensively. They deserve to be in the top 10. Matt is a great coach and has done an amazing job with that group of girls." said Coach Robby Crihfield "We knew they were going to make us earn every point and not give us anything easy".

The first set saw ups and downs for both teams as they were trying to get the feel for the game. Both teams had good stretches but it was finished with the Eagles going on the final run to take the set 27-25. The second set was all Waldorf. The Lady Roadrunners played error free ball and forced the Lady Eagles into 15 errors for a 25-18 victory. "That's what they do" said Crihfield "they don't give up anything easy, and they let other teams kill themselves. We knew that going into it and we did not execute our game plan in the second set."

The third set saw a refocused BCS team that played almost flawlessly for a 25-10 victory. The roadrunners youth really showed up in the third set.  They looked confused at times, and made a few mental errors that really put them in a hole early.  The fourth set was another set for the ages, neither team led by more than 3 points at any given time. It went back and forth the entire set. The game ended on 3 straight kills from the Eagles Right Side Kathryn Balser giving the Eagles a 26-24 set victory and a 3-1 match victory. "We felt like she had a good advantage over their outside hitter and we wanted to go to her often, especially with the game on the line." - Crihfield

The Area Round victory is the first playoff win for BCS in recent memory and marks the first time the Eagles have ever been to the Regional Round of the playoffs. The win also is the 11th straight for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles will face the number 1 team in the state Tuesday (Huntsville Alpha Omega) in the regional round of the playoffs with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
